Behind the Scenes of the FenekRally:a chat with Lluis Rosa

Organization, challenges and new features: how come to life a rally-raid designed to let everyone experience true adventure. We asked the man who created it years ago.

It is one of the most appreciated offroad motorsport events on the international scene. A unique experience for drivers and enthusiasts, accessible to all. Once again, Morocco will host the new edition of the FenekRally, organized by Lluis Rosa, Dakar finisher and rally codriver, together with his team. Next autumn (from November 15 to 23, 2025), numerous teams will face off along its incredible tracks. Amid early planning, logistical challenges and meticulous attention to detail, Rosa shares how a rally that blends adventure, competition and fun comes to life. And the news for the 2025 edition.

What are the main phases in organizing a rally-raid and how far in advance does planning begin?

Lluis Rosa: “Organizing a rally-raid requires careful and early planning. For the 2025 edition, we began preparations immediately after the conclusion of the previous event (held in October 2024), giving ourselves time to analyze both the challenges and the strengths that emerged. This allowed us to set clear goals, design the route, coordinate logistics and organize the technical and medical teams, ensuring that the November edition will be safe and engaging.”

How is the logistics between stages, support vehicles, accommodations and staff coordinated?

Lluis Rosa: “Coordinating the logistics of an event like this is a complex challenge that demands effective communication between all members of the organizing team: from medical staff in ambulances to those at the start and finish points up the teams responsible for refreshments and race control. To ensure everything runs smoothly, we use long-range communication devices that keep everyone connected, even in the most remote areas. This system allows us to respond quickly in emergencies, adapt logistics based on conditions, and precisely manage the movements of people and support vehicles.”

What are the biggest challenges in organizing a rally-raid?

Lluis Rosa: “Definitely meeting the expectations of the participants, whether in terms of the sporting aspect, medical support, logistics or accommodations, without forgetting fun and overall well-being. For many, a rally raid isn’t just a race but a personal challenge to be lived during free time. It’s important to remember that, even while facing tough trials, participants are on vacation and want to feel engaged, safe, and appreciated. That’s why our work goes beyond just managing the race; we pay attention to every detail to ensure the overall experience is enjoyable and meets expectations. Striking the right balance between professionalism, safety, and a sense of adventure in a relaxed atmosphere is the biggest challenge but it’s also what motivates us the most. We always strive to do our best and to keep improving.”

What can we expect from this year’s edition of the rally, and how has it changed compared to previous ones?

Lluis Rosa: “This year’s edition marks a significant step forward from the past. We’ve built on the strengths of previous editions and tackled the weaknesses of 2024 head-on in order to offer an event that’s more complete, safer and more engaging, for both seasoned racers and newcomers. The medical team has been upgraded with two ambulances, two doctors and a nurse to ensure quick and efficient assistance along the entire route. We’ve also selected higher-quality accommodations to give participants better comfort during rest periods because we believe recovery and well-being are an essential part of the race experience. On the sporting side, we’ve introduced new stages featuring unseen landscapes and more diverse technical challenges, the roadbooks have been revised for more accurate and intuitive navigation. In short, this edition will be more refined and exciting, thanks to our ongoing work in listening and improving.”

One last question: why should a driver (or enthusiast) sign up for the FenekRally?

Lluis Rosa: “FenekRally offers a unique opportunity to experience the adrenaline and intensity of a real rally-raid without excessive costs. It’s an event that’s accessible yet professional, suitable for both beginners and experienced drivers seeking new challenges. Taking part means joining a passionate community where competition, camaraderie and fun coexist in a welcoming and serious sporting environment. It’s a chance to test yourself, discover breathtaking landscapes and make new friends without compromising on quality, safety or the thrill of adventure. In short, it’s a rally-raid for everyone.”
