Dunes and solidarity: the Massoutier at the FenekRally Spring 2026

There are stories that go beyond a simple passion for off-road driving. Stories that speak
of complicity and challenge, but also of deep values. This is the case of Virginie and
Pascal Massoutier, a French couple from Lagrave, in the Tarn department in Occitanie,
ready to take part in the FenekRally Spring Edition in May, in the 4×4 Overland category.

She, 54, a sworn investigator, and he, 58, an entrepreneur in the construction sector, are
no strangers to the world of desert rally-raids. They have already shared important
experiences such as the W’Oman & Man Aventura Cup (twice), building over time a strong
partnership, both inside and outside the cockpit. Virginie has also competed in the
Trophée Roses des Andes 2017 (Bolivia and Chile), the Mongolie Aventura Cup 2018, and
the Trophée Roses des Sables 2022 in Morocco.

“We were looking for an adventure different from the previous ones, with a different kind of
organization. The FenekRally’s ‘daisy’ format won us over -they explain- And we also hope
to meet other crews with the same mindset, with whom we can share evenings,
experiences, and this great passion for 4×4 driving”.

Their approach is simple yet effective, based on collaboration and mutual listening. During
the race, there are no fixed roles: “We take turns depending on the terrain: Pascal enjoys
the dunes… so there, the wheel is all his!” Virginie says with a smile. Their strategy also
reflects their spirit: “Don’t set off without thinking… but above all, have fun!” A balance
between caution and the pleasure of adventure that perfectly represents the Overland
philosophy.

Taking them across the dunes will be their trusted Toyota HDJ100, affectionately
nicknamed “Tabanas.” “It has become part of the family -they explain- For the rally, we had
a full check-up carried out by our trusted mechanic, checking every single detail to tackle
the desert stages with peace of mind. We didn’t want to heavily modify it, because it is
already an extremely reliable vehicle and perfectly suited for this kind of adventure.”
But for Team Massou Family (#601), this is not just a sporting competition. It is also a
charitable project, a way to give meaning to every kilometer traveled. “We decided to link
this participation to a humanitarian goal that is very important to us -they continue- For
every kilometre of special stage completed, 1 euro will be donated to the association
‘1313, Le marathon de Laurie.’ It’s a way to turn the race into something that goes beyond
ourselves, to find even stronger motivation in difficult moments and reach the finish with a
deeper meaning.”

Behind this commitment lies the story of Laurie, a young woman who passed away at just
21 after 1,313 long days battling a serious cancer. “Laurie is a presence that continues to
inspire us -the Massoutier say with emotion- Her courage, her strength, and the way she
faced the illness are a constant example for us. We want to keep her memory alive, but
also turn it into concrete help for others.”

The funds raised are allocated to institutions such as the Oncopole Claudius Regaud in
Toulouse and the Oscar’s Angels association, which supported Laurie throughout her
journey with care and humanity. Since 2018, Virginie and Pascal have been actively

involved in this initiative, which has grown year after year thanks to the participation of
more and more crews and supporters.
Between sand, navigation, and team spirit, their presence at the FenekRally Spring will go
far beyond a simple race: it will be a journey made of emotion and awareness, where each
stage becomes a piece of a bigger story. “The important thing is to arrive… but above all to
live every moment” conclude Virginie and Pascal.
